Ukrainian forces carried out a drone attack on an oil refinery in the Russian city of Yaroslavl overnight on Nov. 3, according to several social media accounts. Neither Ukrainian nor Russian officials had commented publicly at the time of writing 124.
The Kyiv Independent said Ukraine had reportedly struck the refinery with drones overnight, citing residents who described several fires at the facility 4. A separate post by @thetect0nic identified the site as the Slavneft-YANOS refinery and said explosions had been reported nearby during what it called a suspected new Ukrainian drone attack 5.
Other accounts described the scale of the strike in varying terms. A post by @YoonTV1578 attributed the attack to Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces and called it a massive drone strike on a refinery in the Yaroslavl region 2. @NotWoofers wrote that explosions and gunfire could be heard near the refinery and that it was on fire 3. @clashreport described the facility as one of Russia's largest refineries and said a fire had broken out at the industrial site 6. The "gunfire" may refer to air defences, but that detail was not independently confirmed.
Further accounts circulating online gave figures for the number of drones involved and said the plant had been hit more than once. One also reported explosions several kilometres from the refinery. These details could not be verified and they varied from account to account.
Most of the reports appear to repeat the same core information, so they do not amount to independent confirmation. Ukraine's General Staff and the Security Service of Ukraine had not issued statements on the attack. Neither had the Yaroslavl regional governor nor Russia's Defence Ministry, which often reports the number of drones it says it intercepted. No information on casualties or the extent of damage was available.
Yaroslavl is several hundred kilometres from the Ukrainian border. Ukrainian media reported that the city came under drone attack in early August, when the regional governor confirmed a Ukrainian UAV attack. Online channels at the time suggested the same refinery had been hit.
The reports come amid a run of claimed strikes on Russian energy sites in recent days. They include an ongoing fire at the Kstovo refinery in Nizhny Novgorod region and a reported drone strike on an oil pumping station near Samara. In the same period, Russia launched a large drone and missile attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, including the Ladyzhyn thermal power plant in Vinnytsia region, and a ballistic missile strike was reported on Dnipro.
